Installation of new signs or changing the copy on existing signs requires a building permit from the Building Division (Planning Division will review the proposed signs as part of the building permit review).  Proposed signs are reviewed for compliance with Title 22 of the Municipal Code, Sign Regulations.  There are requirements for size, number and location on a property.

Sign Variance Application

A variance from the requirements of the sign code requires approval from the Planning Commission.  A variance may be requested for number of signs or placement of signs, but may not be granted for the total sign area allowed on a property.
