Burlingame Municipal Code
The new Zoning Ordinance was adopted by the City Council on December 6, 2021 and became effective on January 5, 2022.  The new Zoning Ordinance incorporated Title 21 (Historic Preservation) and Title 22 (Signs) of the Burlingame Municipal Code into the Zoning Code, since these are areas covered more appropriately in the Zoning Code.  For more recent amendments to this Code related to Planning, contact the City’s Planning Division at (650) 558-7250.

Signs 
Installation of signs and changing the copy of existing signs requires a building permit from the Building Division (the Planning Division will review the proposed signs as part of the building permit review).  Proposed signs are reviewed for compliance with Sign Regulations. There are requirements for size, number and location on a property. 

A building permit is also required to change the copy of an existing sign. A variance from the requirements of the sign code requires approval from the Planning Commission.  A variance may be requested for number of signs or placement of signs, but may not be granted for the total sign area allowed on a property.

Wireless Communications
The City's Wireless Telecommunications Ordinance was adopted on February 6, 2012.  To view links to Planning applications, fee schedules and other materials needed for submission of applications for modifications to existing or new wireless telecommunications facilities, click here.   As applications are submitted, this page will also provide a link to applications that are pending review, as well as applications approved pursuant to the City's ordinance.
