The City Attorney is responsible for providing ongoing legal advice to the City Council, boards, commissions, and staff, management and conduct of all litigation involving the City, and handling of all claims filed against the City under the State Tort Claims Act (about 90 per year). The Attorney’s office oversees and coordinates the City’s liability and insurance programs and the enforcement of the municipal code.
The City Attorney’s office is staffed by the City Attorney, Assistant City Attorney, Executive Assistant, and Code Compliance Officer, who investigates code complaints, ensures City follow-up, and assists in claims investigation. The Executive Assistant to the City Attorney also assists the City Manager.
