Citywide Storm Drain Improvements

Burlingame residents approved a storm drain fee in May 2009 to fund a Capital Improvement Program to improve the City's storm drain system. Implementing the $39 million Capital Improvement Program to replace the city's aging levees, pipes and pumps will provide long-lasting flood protection, improve public safety and reduce pollution. The Capital Improvement Program was developed by Burlingame Public Works engineers and city staff, who worked with the community to evaluate and prioritize storm drain needs. There are a total of 10 major areas of improvement across the City.

The City Council has also established a Citizens Oversight Committee to ensure that storm drain fees are used only for the City’s storm drain program. Multiple meetings have taken place with the Citizens Oversight Committee to review progress on the CIP projects.
