The City of Burlingame has approved an application to redevelop the properties at 1491-93 Oak Grove Avenue. The project applicant will redevelop the site with a new 10-unit residential condominium building.
The condominium building will be five stories, with a below-grade parking garage, a lobby community room and at-grade parking on ground level, and four stories of condominium units above. The overall height is 55 feet. The project will include 6 two-bedroom units, 3 one-bedroom units, and 1 three-bedroom unit, for a total of 10 condominium units.
The site is located within the Burlingame Downtown Specific Plan area and is subject to the regulations and guidelines outlined in the plan. The project requires the following permits and actions:
- Design Review for construction of a new five-story, 10-unit condominium building with below-grade parking
- Lot Combination to combine 1491 Oak Grove Avenue and 1493 Oak Grove Avenue into one 8,700 SF parcel
- Conditional Use Permit for building height (55’-0” proposed where a Conditional Use Permit is required if the building exceeds 35’-0” in height; 55’-0” is the maximum allowed)
- Condominium Permit required for construction of new condominium building
A building permit was issued in November 2017 and the project is currently under construction.

The Burlingame Planning Commission approved the project and environmental review on August 22, 2016.
Notice of Intent to Adopt a Mitigated Negative Declaration - In accordance with Section 15072(a) of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Guidelines, notice is hereby given of the City’s intent to adopt a Mitigated Negative Declaration for the proposed project. The City of Burlingame has completed a review of the proposed project, and on the basis of an Initial Study and mitigations, finds that the project will not have a significant effect upon the environment. The minimum comment period for this document is 20 (twenty) days and began on July 6, 2016. The Planning Commission hearing to review the proposed application for Environmental Review, Lot Merger, Condominium Permit, Design Review and Conditional Use Permit has been tentatively scheduled for August 22, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 501 Primrose Road, Burlingame, California.
PLANNING COMMISSION STUDY MEETING – March 28, 2016
The Burlingame Planning Commission held an Environmental Review Scoping and Design Review Meeting on March 28, 2016. The meeting focused on reviewing the design concept and identifying potential environmental issues to be studied in the environmental review of the proposed project.
