Spring is in the air, and we have your free packets of seeds ready for planting!  The Burlingame Library is offering you four free packets of seeds for easy pickup at either the main library or our Easton branch. There are currently more than 50 varieties to choose from, including California wildflowers, vegetables, and herbs. Just scan the QR code or click on the link, fill out the form, and submit. Your order will be ready in three to five business days. You may order four packets every three months!

The 8th annual Peninsula Libraries Comic Arts Fest (PLCAF) begins in April! Start the celebration with a free one-day Kick Off Event and Small Press Comics Expo at the South San Francisco Library | Parks & Recreation Building on April 6 from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM.

Peninsula Libraries 8th Annual Comic Arts Fest and Burlingame Library present 
Comics as a Way of Thinking with Nick Sousanis 
Author Talk and Comics Workshop 

Nick Sousanis, author of Unflattening and professor of Comics Studies at SFSU will present on his experiences writing and drawing his doctoral dissertation entirely in comics form. In this presentation and workshop, Nick will explore the importance of visual thinking and comics-making as both an educator and artist. Nick will also lead us in a quick comics-making workshop to put comics as a way of thinking into practice. Materials will be provided, just bring a willingness to play! You are also welcome to bring your favorite notebook or drawing utensil.

Pam Peirce is a San Francisco-based gardener, author, photographer, and lecturer. She is celebrating publication of the 30th Anniversary edition of her classic regional gardening book, Golden Gate Gardening. (It includes useful recipes.) Pam taught horticulture at City College of San Francisco for nearly 30 years and writes widely on gardening and food issues. Register for reminders!

Teens and Adults are invited to join us for a series of intergenerational poetry workshops centering
mental health with Youth Poet Laureate Lauren Lin. Workshops will take place on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at 4:30pm, starting December 7, 2023 through April 18, 2024 and no previous poetry experience is needed! Refreshments will be provided at each workshop.
Workshops will culminate in an optional May 2024 open mic performance for Mental Health Awareness Month.

Poetry is Magical from April 1-30, 2024 for grades TK-5
Elementary-age children are invited to write an original poem, bring it to the Main Burlingame Library or Easton Branch Library between April 1-30 and receive a free paperback book of poetry!

The two schools with the highest per capita participation will receive a large stuffed Dragon for their school library.

Poem must be turned in by individual student and it is a limit of one poetry book per student.

We welcome Kindergarteners through 8th graders to be paired with a Teen Mentor (with a 3.5+ GPA) for free homework help with reading, writing, science, and math. The Homework Center runs each Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 4pm-5:30pm in the Lane Room on the Lower Level of the Burlingame Main Library.

A parent or guardian will need to fill out a Parent Permission form at their student's first session.
